Why you should try a Pilates Retreat!

A retreat is not just a holiday it's an experience!

I have thought many times about organising a Pilates retreat, so when Jo suggested we do one together this summer I thought it was a fantastic idea… just couldn’t resist! It’s such a great opportunity to get a group of Pilates fans of different ages and abilities together from different locations for a relaxing, restful time with healthy food and calming Pilates exercises that will unwind the body and mind.

What makes a Pilates retreat so special and unique?

A retreat can take you on a personal journey to gain a deeper understanding and insight into the Pilates method as well as with your own mind and body. It gives you the chance to appreciate the huge benefits of regular daily Pilates practice at the same time as having an appreciation of nature and its surroundings. This combined with healthy food, relaxation, massage, meditation, mindfulness, and like-minded company cannot fail to leave you feeling healthy, energised, relaxed, and refreshed!

What are the benefits?

Escape the stresses of everyday life – Many people choose a retreat to escape the stresses of everyday life. Pilates is a great way of practicing mindfulness. This helps you to disconnect with the distractions of modern-day life and help you to become motivated and inspired to reach your goals and go on a personal journey…whatever that might be.

A change in environment – It gives you a change of environment and that famous saying of “a change is as good as a rest” can’t be truer when it comes to retreats! It can help you to change perspective and when in beautiful surroundings such as the mountains of Majorca it gives you the opportunity to connect with both yourself and nature.

Healthy eating – Good food is always part of a retreat, and this can really help to kick start a new healthier lifestyle and eating plan that will leave you feeling more positive and energised. It might not stop us enjoying an odd glass of local wine though!!

Break old unhealthy habits – A retreat will help you to create new, more positive habits as you learn and appreciate new skills. In such a tranquil setting with a planned schedule, you won’t be able to follow your normal routine so great to break that and do something different and new. It’s also a good way of breaking unhealthy habits such as overeating or smoking if that’s  your goal for example. You are more likely to become highly motivated to continue a healthy and positive routine at home.

Digital detox – It’s a chance to detox digitally! In such a lovely setting we are more inspired to enjoy nature as it takes you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and those endless emails and buzzing phones!

Goal Setting and personal challenge – Having the opportunity to meet like minded people with similar goals to yourself may help you to stay motivated to reach yours. It may well also take you out of your comfort zone by branching out to meet new people.

Relax the mind – The surroundings will help you to relax the mind, and this is when you can become more clear, positive, and inspired… your mind will be taken away from any negative energy.

Improve sleep – Retreats allow you to relax so that you can improve your sleep. This is one of the most important aspects of health and we need plenty of rest and sleep to improve our cognitive ability, memory, and develop our creativity.

Reach health goals – It will give you the time to focus on your health goals under the guidance of health and fitness professionals, so you have the inspiration to reach them.

Improve mental health – Retreats can improve your mental health by allowing an emotional and psychological separation from the stresses and strains of everyday life. A chance to escape within a supportive and nourishing environment. It can give you a sense of calm & provide a fresh perspective.

Conclusion
